Michael Steen is the Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Air Worldwide

Michael has more than 30 years of experience in global aviation and logistics, including 16 years of executive leadership experience with Atlas. Michael is responsible for designing and executing the strategic growth plans for Atlas Air Worldwide and its global operating airlines, Atlas Air, Inc. and Polar Air Cargo, a joint venture airline with DHL Express, and its wholly-owned dry-leasing company, Titan Aviation Holdings, Inc.

With nearly 5,000 employees, the Atlas Air Worldwide companies serve the e-commerce, express and general air freight markets in more than 250 destinations in 90 countries and are a major supplier to Alibaba, Amazon, DHL Express, FedEx, HP, Inditex, Kuehne+Nagel, NCA, Qantas, SF Express, UPS and the U.S. military. Together, they operate the world’s largest fleet of 747 freighter aircraft and provide customers the broadest array of Boeing 747, 777, 767 and 737 aircraft and complementary aviation services.

Michael assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer in June 2023. Prior to taking this post, Michael served as Chief Commercial Officer since 2007 and has been responsible for leading the Company’s strategy and growing market share, as well as developing and diversifying the Company’s roster of blue-chip customers. In that role, Michael had oversight of all aspects of the Company’s global sales and marketing activities, including strategy, new products and services, brand positioning and marketing communications.

Through Michael’s tenure, the Company has grown to be the world’s second-largest airfreight operator measured by freight tonne kilometers (FTKs). Michael has led the Company’s diversification strategy, expanding the Company’s service offerings and growing the fleet from a single 747-gauge ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance, insurance) cargo business to many gauges of aircraft, as well as the expansion into passenger service and aircraft leasing businesses.

Additionally, Michael served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Titan, which since its inception in 2009 has grown to become the third largest freighter lessor globally by fleet value.

Michael has both broad and unique experience in the aviation and logistics sectors, having served global leadership roles at market leaders including DHL, Exel Plc and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of CHC Helicopter and several industry advisory boards.

A native of Sweden, Michael earned a degree in economics in Gothenburg Sweden and is an alumnus of the Advanced Executive Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University

Richard Broekman
Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Sustainability

Richard Broekman is Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Sustainability for Atlas Air Worldwide. He is responsible for the development and execution of the Company’s commercial strategies, as well as management of the corporate sales strategy for the ACMI, CMI and charter service businesses on a global basis. In his expanded role as Head of Sustainability, Richard will drive the Company’s commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and lead the development of the Company’s decarbonization strategies. Having invested nearly his entire career in this industry, Richard brings extensive expertise in air cargo across many facets of the business. He served as Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Commercial Development since 2018, and has been integral to the Company’s success in driving the strategic diversification of its customer base. He joined the Company in 2004 and held positions with increasing responsibilities in Finance and Business Development. Richard holds both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He brings a deep passion for environmental stewardship and is completing an Executive Master degree in Sustainability Transition Management from the Bologna Business School.

Martin Drew
Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer

Martin Drew is the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for Atlas Air Worldwide and serves on the Company’s Executive Leadership Team.

In his role overseeing corporate strategy, Martin drives strategic growth and diversification through initiatives such as cultivating long-term customer relationships, developing pricing strategies, expanding into new geographic markets, enhancing the fleet and forming strategic partnerships and initiatives that support the Company’s Mission to Power Our Customers’ Global Supply Chains. 

Prior to joining Atlas, Martin was most recently Senior Vice President Global Sales, Marketing, Brand and Cargo at Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. where he oversaw all aspects of Etihad Cargo and was a member of the airline’s leadership team. He first joined Etihad Airways in 2005 and during this time spent 18 months working with Jet Airways as Vice President, Cargo in Mumbai, substantially growing the airline’s cargo business. He also previously held the position of Vice President Europe and Americas with responsibility for Etihad’s activities in Europe and the Americas, including Passenger Sales, Marketing, and Alliances. Prior to that, he held senior positions at Lufthansa and DAS Air Cargo.

In April 2024, Martin was appointed to The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) Board of Directors. TIACA aims to represent the entire global air cargo community through advocacy, partnership efforts, industry projects and initiatives focused on people and skills development.

Joel Goldberg
Chief Information Officer

Joel brings to Atlas nearly three decades of experience leading digital transformation initiatives at global blue-chip companies within the aviation, logistics and consumer industries. As Chief Information Officer, he leads Atlas’ technology and digital strategies with a focus on enhancing airline operations support and digital transformation. He is responsible for the Company’s enterprise operations, infrastructure architecture, system and data architecture, cybersecurity, business service management, project management, information technology administration and compliance. Joel joined Atlas from Wizz Air, a fast growing, sustainably driven passenger airline in Europe, where he served as Global Chief Digital Officer for five years. In his prior role, Joel defined and led the digital strategy including successfully executing the airline’s digital transformation. Prior to Wizz Air, Joel was Senior Director of Technology for Nike in EMEA, where he evolved and executed the company’s global technology strategy that fueled double-digit growth of the region’s business. He also held a series of roles of increasing responsibility at Maersk, the integrated container logistics and supply services company, including Director of E-Business and Global Director of Business Applications. In addition, Joel served as Chief Information Officer at G4S, a leading global security company, and earlier in his career, held roles at DHL Express and FedEx. Joel holds a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Florida.

Artem Gonopolskiy
Chief Financial Officer

Artem Gonopolskiy is the Chief Financial Officer for Atlas Air Worldwide.  Artem leads all aspects of our Finance function, including strategic financial planning, accounting, reporting, internal audit, tax, treasury and investor relations. As an integral member of our leadership team, he has played a critical role in the execution of key transactions throughout his 18 year tenure at Atlas, including the Company’s expansion into the B747-8F fleet, the B767-F fleet, the B777 fleet and the initiation and growth of the CMI business with Boeing, Amazon and DHL as well as numerous other initiatives. Most recently, Artem has been instrumental in driving the transformation of Atlas as a private Company. Since joining Atlas in 2005 as a Senior Financial Analyst, Artem rose through the ranks of the Company’s finance organization, most recently serving as Senior Vice President, Financial Planning and Analysis before being named Interim CFO in June 2023. He was appointed to his current position in November 2023.  Prior to joining Atlas, Artem served as an analyst with ICF Consulting for several years, and was a Consultant with the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative. Mr. Gonopolskiy holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Trinity College and an MBA from Columbia University.

Patricia Goodwin-Peters
Senior Vice President Human Resources

Patricia Goodwin-Peters is responsible for providing strategic leadership through the development of Human Resources policies and practices that reflect the Company’s values and support its strategy.

Patricia joined Atlas Air in 2018 with more than 15 years of Human Resources experience. Before joining Atlas, Patricia was the Head of Human Resources North America for Kate Spade & Co. and was responsible for talent identification and management initiatives and served as a liaison to the Board of Directors on topics of talent strategy and executive compensation. Additionally, she led company-wide culture enhancement programs and learning and organization development. Prior to Kate Spade, Patricia held senior HR positions with Aeropostale, Inc. and Ralph Lauren where she led global performance management and mobilization programs that facilitated significant company growth.

George Kopcsay
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

George Kopcsay is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Atlas Air Worldwide. He is responsible for the Company’s legal matters, regulatory affairs, compliance and government affairs. With more than 20 years of law experience, including 13 years of experience at Atlas, George has been instrumental in providing support for the Company’s growth with key customers, mergers and acquisitions, public securities offerings, compliance initiatives and other transactional matters. Prior to joining Atlas in 2010, George was an associate at Ropes & Gray LLP where he focused his practice on capital market transactions, securities law compliance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. George holds a Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from George Washington University.

Richard Rolland
Chief Operating Officer
